Improving Lives By Giving Back

We are delighted to welcome Jon Sciambi to the 17th Annual Meeting of the Pilates Method Alliance, to deliver the keynote address at our Opening General Assembly.

Introduced to Pilates by Jake Arrieta, pitcher for the Chicago Cubs, Jon shares, “For me, Pilates is balance.  It helps me understand how, why and what is actually making something move and fire.”

Jon’s philanthropic work has a special focus on fundraising for ALS – a condition that has affected a well-loved figure of our Pilates community, Mari Winsor. His interest in raising money to offset costs and help improve the quality of life of those living with ALS started as a personal experience when his childhood friend, Tim Sheehy, was diagnosed with ALS and eventually lost his life to the disease. In 2006 a group of Jon’s friends, along with Tim, founded Project Main Street.  (http://projectmainst.org/).

When asked why he is interested in joining our conference this year, Jon adds, “Carrying around the knowledge and ability to improve someone’s physical state is a powerful currency. Everyone attending this conference, every Pilates teacher, has that ability and something valuable that they can literally give to other people.  I want to have conversations on bringing awareness and support to people who need it.”

We are thrilled that Jon agreed to address our assembly. Connecting the world of professional sports and Pilates is a natural fit from many perspectives. We look forward to hearing his message of inspiration, contribution and compassion.

Jon Sciambi joined ESPN full time in 2010 as the play-by-play voice for MLB on ESPN Radio, while continuing the same role for college basketball and MLB on ESPN TV, which he has done since 2005. In addition, Sciambi has been the regular play-by-play voice on Wednesday Night Baseball telecasts for the network since the 2014 season and was a regular host for Baseball Tonight.  Prior to joining ESPN full-time, Sciambi was the lead play-by-play television announcer for the Atlanta Braves on Fox Sports South TV and SportSouth TV (2007-2009). Sciambi was also a broadcaster for the Miami Marlins from 1997-2004.  A New York native, Sciambi is a graduate of Boston College and Regis High School.
